DEEPAWALI == FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS =/= FESTIVAL OF SMOKE

BACK TO NATURE

DISCOVER THE TRUE WAY OF CELEBRATING
ECO – DEEPAWALI

Every year the festival of lights fills our life with darkness!!

Air pollution more than doubles and big cities like Delhi become gas chambers. Crackers also release heavy metals among other toxic substances.

Noise levels cross deafening limits.

Children are the biggest victims as their defence mechanisms are not fully developed to withstand the increased intensity of pollution. Others also suffer from respiratory disorders like asthma and even heart attacks.

Spreading awareness about harms of crackers

Bursting of crackers is now a means of "showing off " and is another opportunity to display ones wealth. With so many people living in poverty, burning money on crackers is a shame.

The silent sufferers: Trees are coated with smoke which block their photosynthetic process. Birds and animal have to cope with loud blasts and toxic smoke leading to their disappearance from our city.

Losing so much for so little? Doesn't make sense.

Celebrating Diwali with crackers is not our tradition! When Lord Rama returned to Ayodha, there were no fire crackers to greet him. Diwali is a festival of lights and was never a festival of crackers and smoke.

How else can we celebrate Eco-Deepawali :

Eco Visarjan : Religiously only metal, stone or unbaked clay idols are worshipped. Metal or stone idols can be worshipped every year, while unbaked clay idols, painted with only natural colours will not pollute water when immersed.

Rangoli:  Rangoli earlier was made with flour to provide food for ants and not with toxic colours. You can also make Rangoli with natural ingredients like wheat or rice flour or mix with haldi, mehendi and sindur for colour.

Gifts: Give gifts and not packaging material !! The gifts in the market these days have more of plastic and other material packaging and less of contents. Avoid them. Also wrap the gifts in handmade / brown / news paper and not glitter paper which is not recyclable.

Make Deepawali not just happy for us but also for surroundings.

CLEAN-India has been successfully campaigning for celebrating ECO-DEEPAWALI  through plays and discussions. We invite all to join us in our campaign.

Wishing You A Happy and Smokeless Diwali
with Lights, Flowers, Sweets, Friends and Joy!
