Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Buying recycled products cuts down on waste, prevents pollution
and conserves resource and energy. Products made from recycled materials use less
energy to manufacture than products made from completely new materials. By buying
recycled products, you will help create a market that is environment friendly. These
are a few simple things you can do to reduce your waste and cut emissions: |
|
|
|
|
|
- Use and buy less. It is the simplest way to conserve energy.
- Buy in bulk as bulk items use less packaging. This means less energy
has gone into it.
- Buy products with minimum packaging.
- Say NO to plastics. Wherever possible use paper or cloth alternatives.
- Do not fall victim to the ‘use and throw’ culture. Avoid using disposable
items when rechargeable or reusable alternatives are available. Buy quality products
that will last longer and create less junk.
- Save paper by working online and take print-outs only if absolutely necessary.
Use both sides of paper and recycle all waste paper including old newspapers. Recycling
paper will cause less trees to be cut down and will allow them to continue to remove
CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis.
- Segregate your wastes. Recycle all the non-biodegradable waste and compost
the biodegradable wastes.
- Dispose off electronic waste only at authorised e-waste collection centres.
Similarly, dispose off toxic wastes like used batteries and CFLs at authorised collection
centres only.
- Donate things you do not really need.
