Humongous
amounts of electricity are used in purifying water at water treatment
plants, sending them to your homes and most importantly in pumping it to your overhead
tanks. So, saving water considerably reduces your impact on climate change.
These
are a few simple things you can do to save water and cut emissions: |

- Turn the tap off while you brush your teeth and rinse at the
end with a mug of water.
- Take short showers instead of baths. A bath uses up to 90 litres of
water whereas showers require an average of only 30 litres. Use water efficient shower heads.
- Check the condition of the plumbing and get all leaks repaired.
- Use the washing machine and dish washer only when you have a full
load, or better still wash dishes by hand.
- Use cisterns which have both options of flushing with less or
more water. Otherwise keep a filled bottle inside the cistern to reduce the water
used each time you flush.
- Never put water down the drain when there may be another
use for it such as watering a plant or garden, or cleaning.
- Wash vegetables in a bowl, not under running water.
- Use sprinklers in the garden instead of piped water.
- Set up rain water harvesting structures in your home and neighbourhood.
