Children’s Conference on Environment, Nairobi 1998

United Nations Environment Programme
organised an International Children’s Conference on
Environment from 23 to 25 November 1998 with the slogan
"Leave it to us". Two teachers and four students selected and
sponsored by Coca Cola India were:

At the conference 600 children from 60
countries worked on three themes -Wildlife in danger,
Waste and Recycling, Media and the Environment.
The DEAN participants prepared panels on the DEAN programme
and displayed them in the exhibition at the venue (UNEP
headquarters), which generated lot of interest in the
participating delegates.
DEAN delegates used the novel way of street theatre or "nukkad
natak" for their presentation on water and the use of JAL
TARA kit.
Our ambassadors presented one JAL TARA Water
Quality Monitoring Kit to Starehe School, Nairobi, Kenya.
Participating students from various countries
deliberated ,discussed and shared their experiences during the
conference. They also had an opportunity to visit the composting
site in market places, paper recycling unit, unit making paper
from water hyacinth and also the Nairobi national park.
