Removing advertisements nailed on trees

Each Step Counts !!

Begin with some of the basic steps you can do as friends of trees:

  1. Trees and plants have been worshipped in our culture since centuries. Let us respect them and refrain from plucking leaves / grass / flowers unnecessarily.
  2. Lets not use trees as a media for publicity and crucify them with advertisements. The rusted nails can cause cancer in the tree. Remove advertisements nailed on trees in your colony and fill the hole preferably with Bordeaux powder.
  3. Tree guards provide crucial support to trees in there initial years. But once the trees have grown, the tree guards hampers the tree’s growth, thus must be removed in good time.
  4. Do not allow leaves or waste to be burned under the tree as this singes the tree and can cause irreparable damage to it. Instead allow the biodegradable waste to mulch
  5. Get your vehicles checked for pollution regularly.
  6. During the intense Indian summers, whenever you wash your vehicle, drain the waste water towards a tree / plants nearby.
  7. Digging near trees for laying repairing pipes and cables should be stopped. This cuts the roots of trees, thus weakening them and they can get uprooted even in a mild storm. After digging it takes days before the work is done and the hole filled again. This delay causes even the surviving roots to die due to prolonged exposure to air.
  8. Concretising or paving the soil around the trees suffocates the trees and they soon perish. Break / loosen the concrete around such trees with a hammer. Break or loosen the concrete around the tree trunks and substitute with garden soil and manure.
  9. While constructing driveways and walls in your own home, remember to keep adequate open space for the trees growing there.
  10. When you see a tree or its branches being cut or digging near the trees, check whether permission has been taken from the concerned authorities.
  11. Whenever you find trees being threatened inform the school authorities/ residents/ Resident Welfare Associations for action, or form your own youth group and take first aid action for trees.
  12. There are enough rules and regulations regarding the protection of trees like The Delhi Tree Preservation Act and the Government of India notification No.5-DDR/VIP/2000-DDVI. There are also agencies like the tree officer and the tree helpline who can be approached for assistance.
  13. Plant and nurture a new tree every year !! Planting trees is easy, nurturing them  - the real task. Plant saplings during monsoons. Their chances of survival are higher then. For some tips on tree planting click here

One tree less means nothing

One tree less means that much less shade.

One tree less means that much more soil eroded.

One tree less means that much less oxygen.

One tree less means that much more pollution.

One tree less means that many birds without nests, animals without shelter.

One tree less means that much less water, less food.

One tree less means that much more heat, more cold.

One tree less, another tree less, and another tree less means nothing in the end.

Nothing.
