What Each One Can Do

What do Trees do for us?

Trees play a vital role in sustaining the natural environment. Trees, apart from their aesthetic appeal, absorb air pollution and noise as well as trap dust. They also keep cities cool, attract rain, improve soil conditions, raise the water table and give shelter to birds , insects and animals. They are source of fruits, medicines, wood, rubber...

Heard of "Kalpvriksh" ? In Indian legends, this was the mythical tree which had mystical powers and could make your wishes come true (thus the name "kalp" = imagine, "vriksh" = tree). See the similarity? Even in this computer age, most of our human needs are met by trees and plants. Can you imagine our lives without trees? In fact only trees make this planet habitable.

Prayer of the Tree

On cold nights I am
the heat of your hearth,
I screen you from the sun
With friendly shade
I give people fruits and flowers
As you thirst, my fruits refresh you
I am the beam that holds your house,
The board of your table,
The bed that you lie on
The timber that builds your boat
And from which you get furniture.
I am the hands of your hoe,
And the door of your homestead.
The wood of your cradle and the shell
Of your coffin.
