MAKE YOUR ECO-FRIENDLY CLEANERS

Use soaps instead of detergents, which are derived from non-renewable petroleum products. Soaps bio-degrade better without polluting water. Make sure you do not use  "bathing bars" , but use "soaps" for bathing as soaps are not only environment but also skin friendly.

For clean clothes

Rub Besan / talcum powder to remove oil stains from silks / expensive clothes.

Wash silk and delicate fabrics in reetha (soapnut) soaked in water.

Rub lemon juice on clothes dry and wash to remove stains of various kinds. Tomato juice may also be used instead of lemon juice.
                                                                                     

 

Make your own herbal shampoo

Soak reetha overnight or leaves of red Hibiscus for half an hour. Rub between your palms and squeeze the reetha / leaves to get the extract. Use the extract for washing hair.

For shining silver

Rub with some toothpaste on the object and leave for drying and then wash. 
The ash of incense sticks (agarbatti) can also be used for shining silver.

Environment friendly insecticides

For storing rice, pulses, wheat put a few neem leaves or turmeric powder or dry red chilly in the jar or bag in which they are stored. 

Burn few neem leaves  or coconut husk to drive away mosquitoes. Add a few drops of citronella oil while mopping. 

To prevent ant invasion, sprinkle boric powder or turmeric powder or spray neem oil.
